E&O Mock Trial

Tuesday, October 5 - 1:00 to 4:00 pm

*This session counts towards three hours of the necessary credit toward the E&O discount.
*This session satisfies the IL Ethics credit requirement.

 

This session is designed to show how mistakes made by an insurance agent are portrayed in a court room setting.

 

Upon completing this session, participants will:

 

  • Understand the perils associated with not properly updating coverage

  • Recognize the importance of properly completing certificates of insurance

  • Identify the problems that changes in operations can present

  • See the potential problems with electronic communications

  • Learn how an insurance claim is calculated when property is not insured to value

  • Understand the E&O exposure from not properly handling an account

  • Serve as a jury for the proceeding after hearing the facts

We need volunteers to participate in the Mock Trial as different participants in the cast (no professional acting credentials necessary).  Let us know if you plan to take the course & would be willing to play a role. Some parts have as little as two lines. Click here to volunteer.

This three-hour continuing education class is interactive and fast paced. Participants sit as “jurors” and decide personal lines and commercial coverage and liability cases (all of which have been decided by appellate courts within the last few years). The participants deliberate and then compare their verdicts to the result in the real-world case on which the case is based. The actual outcome of the case and lessons to be gained from it are discussed.

Employment-Related Litigation and the Benefits of Employment Practice Liability Insurance

Silent Cyber and the Impact on Equipment Breakdown

The complexity of today’s computer systems and networks makes it difficult for organizations to protect themselves from a hacker’s attack. New threats are constantly being developed that could have so-called "silent cyber" implications because of potential cyber-related losses stemming from traditional property and liability policies that were not specifically designed to cover cyber risk. This presentation will help attendees determine if their organization is at risk of an attack with silent cyber implications, and how to mitigate that risk.

IIA of IL leadership will discuss the trends and challenges facing the independent agency system. The Association will share what they are doing to stay ahead of the curve to provide a sustainable competitive advantage for member agencies.

During the Carrier Executives Panel Discussion, hear from company executives on how the insurance industry was affected by the pandemic and how their companies are responding. The executives will also discuss changes in the way agencies do business as a result of COVID-19 and the rapid transition to remote and hybrid work environments.
